Wheel problem posted by Zach on 01/16/2007
Going at a sortof good pace to get this bot done, we ran into a problem.

The wheels are much too thin to put set screws in (especially where it is grooved in). So.. we needed to think of a new plan that would let the wheels spin on the axel of the b/16's, and work with the unique design of the wheels. I decided to drill the hole of the wheel a litle bigger. Then, thread the inside of the bore to fit a 10-32 steel machine screw. Then, through the threaded wheel, the screw will then screw into an aluminum rod on the other side of the wheel (half of the rod will be threaded, half will not). Then the other part of the rod that is not threaded will have the shaft of the motor go through that, then set screwed, while the wheel is screwed on to it all (with Loctite included!). Sounds a little complicated, but actually quite simple.
I will have to drill a hole slightly bigger than the aluminum rod, so it can spin freely to the wheel, through the 1/4" lexan walls of the bot.

This is just a picture of the setup now. If you are creative enough, you might be able to imagine how the setup will look after we mount the wheels...
